Shillong :- Shillong is the capital city of India’s beautiful north-east state Maghalaya, also known as "Abode of Cloud", one of the smallest states in India. Located in undulating pine covered hills, the city has a milder climate than tropical India. Home to several waterfalls, it is also known as the Scotland of the East. The Assam style houses with slanting roofs, large number of windows and wooden floors look like a piece of art (and happen to be a very good idea, considering Shillong lies in an area where rains and earthquakes are very common)
Shillong receives heavy rainfalls during monsoon and the rainy season usually lasts longer than in the rest of India. An umbrella is, therefore, a necessity when packing your bags. Although people avoid the rainy season, it is generally the time when the city is clean (rains wash the streets of all garbage) and waterfalls are in full strength.
Shillong, a beautiful hill station is home to lush greenery, cascading waterfalls, tranquil lakes and an all year round pleasant climate. Its natural beauty is at its peak during monsoons. Besides its majestic waterfalls and other mesmerizing natural delights, Shillong has quite a few other charms as well. For instance, the huge artificial Umiam Lake is one must visit spot, often compared to the Lochs Lake of Scotland. Those with an interest in culture and history would do well to spend some time at the Don Bosco Museum of Indigenous North East Culture.
Places of interest :- Shillong Peak, Elephant Falls, Sweet Falls, Spread Eagle Falls, Golf Course, Cathedral Catholic Church, Ward's lake, Lady Hydari Park.

Cherrapunji, which means ‘the land of oranges’, is at an elevation of 4290 ft. One can see the plains of Bangladesh from the cliffs of Cherrapunji. Cherrapunji held the record for the wettest place on earth. However, Mawsynram, also in Meghalaya, holds the distinction of being the wettest place. Cherrapunji receives a staggering 11,777 mm of rainfall annually.
Cherrapunji is perhaps the only place in India, which has just one season: the monsoon. The rainfall varies from heavy to medium to light, but there is no month without rain. Another surprising fact about Cherrapunji is that it rains mostly at night. Day-to-day activity is not really disrupted by the rain.
Cherrapunji is also famous for its live bridges, a result of bio-engineering practised by the locals. The bridges can bear 50 people at a time and are spectacular to watch. Besides, enjoying the rains, Cherrapunji is also a good place for trekking. The most popular trekking route is that leads to Double Decker Living Root bridge in Nongriat village. It is advisable to hire a guide on your treks. Other activities to do in Cherrapunji are river canyoning from Nongthymmai to Mynteng steel rope bridge. Rock climbing and camping can also be indulged in Cherrapunji.
